The Mountain Heritage Trust creates changing exhibitions within Keswick Museum from their fascinating mountaineering collections.

This year you can find out about the life of Siegfried Herford who was the first to climb Scafell’s central buttress, and the effect of the First World War on the climbing community. In May, explore the Himalaya by reliving expeditions to Kangchenjunga in the sixtieth anniversary year of the first ascent.

Mountain Heritage Trust also have displays at Allan Bank (Chorley Hopkinson Mountaineering Library) and within the ‘Lines of Ascent’ exhibition at the Heaton Cooper Gallery, both in Grasmere. There are also reserve collections held in Cumbria, which are open by appointment.
