Nurturing Nature convalescent read-along

Home > What’s On > Nurturing Nature convalescent read-along

Reading has often been associated with physical and emotional convalescence, and was a common activity in sanatoriums. Our read-along list contains suggested books to read as we all convalesce from the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Writer Alison Light has described Agatha Christie’s cosy mysteries in the 1920s as the ‘literature of convalescence’, and argued her books gave people a safe way to process the trauma of the First World War. Our list contains childhood favourites, comfort reads, escapist fantasy, cosy crime – hopefully one of them will take you out of yourself for a few hours. You can read them in the gallery, and purchase copies in our shop. Let us know if you’re reading along with us via our social media channels, using the hashtags #NurturingNature and #NurturingNatureReadalong, where we’ll be posting our own reviews and reading some extracts.
