Crafting the landscape: the journey of a piece of KSIA

Photo showing a woman and a man interacting with a gallery installation. It is a tabletop structure with a wooden laser-cut map of Keswick and the Borrowdale valley. There are four stations around this, one with live moss, one with tactile copper nuggets, one with a hammer and metal sheet, and one with a decorative brass plate and headphones.
Two of the project’s co-creators, Sylvia and Sreeni, enjoying the interactive display.
For the last year, Keswick Museum has been a pilot partner of The Sensational Museum project – a research project radically re-thinking the role of senses in museums. We have been working with a group of pan-disabled co-creators on a multisensory installation which will open in our gallery from 1st July and run until September.

The display explores the journey of a piece of KSIA-ware from the copper mines to the workshop, and visitors can touch, smell, and hear different elements.

Require a quieter experience? We are now holding quiet mornings on alternate Fridays for neuro-diverse visitors, those with sensory issues, and anyone else who may require such accommodations to access our Gallery 2 exhibitions.
